It’s Flu Season: Here’s Our Best Tips to Staying Healthy

Virus

You probably know by now that it’s flu season, whether it’s from social media, pharmacies giving away flu shots, or your doctor asking if you’d like a flu shot. Aside from getting a flu vaccination year to year, what other precautions can you take to keep yourself, your family, and your workers healthy during flu season? Lucky for you, we’ve talked about this a lot!

Consider making an open layout office less… Open

We’ve written about how an open office can be detrimental to both mental and physical health, but having walls and barriers between you and a sick person can help you from catching their germs… Especially if they’re sneezy or coughing. We know we can’t always rely on other human beings to cover their mouths when they sneeze or cough, so putting up real world barriers can help keep the radius of illness smaller.

Wash your hands and wash them often

One thing we go over in multiple posts is how effective simple handwashing can be. Handwashing, when done right, can dramatically decrease the spread of germs and stop them in their tracks. Make sure you’re singing happy birthday to yourself while washing your hands to make sure you’re washing them for long enough.

Use hand sanitizer when you can’t wash your hands

It’s a fact that hand sanitizer is not as effective as hand washing, but if it’s all you’ve got, it’s a good defense until you can get to a proper handwashing. That means using a pump or two when you encounter a sick customer or have to share items with a sick coworker. If possible, opt for an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and keep it handy when someone comes into the office with the sniffles.

5 More Great Tips on Preventing the Spread of Illness at Work

In this blog post, we go over some ways you can prevent illness at work, including covering your mouth (like we said above!), staying home when you’re sick, and bosses, this one is for you: supporting employees who stay at home when they’re sick. Don’t forget that proper cleaning and sanitizing of the office can help stamp out flu sickness.
