Indoor Air Quality
Many offices do not have windows that open or allow for adequate flow of new air coming in consistently from the outside. Because of this, it is important that indoor air quality be kept at a high standard. Allergens, dust particles, germs, and more can very quickly circulate inside of an office’s HVAC system, and with no way out, these items can continually cycle through an office space in its entirety. How do particles enter the air?
It’s easy to consider. Have you ever taken a rag and dusted off something that was very dusty or dirty? Chances are you saw all of those dust particles disperse into the air. While that may be a good visual display of what happens when we’re trying to clean exceptionally dirty areas, the same thing happens to even the most particular and professional cleaners. As we work, areas kick up dust, dirt, particles, germs, and otherwise. With a vacuum with HEPA filtration, it ensures that these particles that are sucked up into the machine do not re-enter your indoor air.
Have you ever taken the filter out of a shop vacuum and forgotten about it being out? When you turn on the shop vacuum next, and you’re vacuuming away, you may notice that some of the things you are vacuuming up, such as dust and dirt, can fly out the back exhaust of the vacuum. This same thing can happen with a regularly filtered vacuum, only the particles are much smaller and can slip right through the weave of a standard filter, re-entering your work space’s air.
The fact is, HEPA and ULPA filters are a much tighter, smaller weave that actually traps those particles rather than allowing them to pass. It is noted that HEPA filtration systems can pick up 99.9% of dust, pollen, and other airborne particles.
